Description	:	Virgil Hinz age 90 died Monday, June 02, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday morning, June 6, 2014 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Rev. Surviving is a daughter, Diane Irvine, Portland, Oregon a granddaughter Angela Hinz and great-grandson Caleb both of Des Moines. His siblings, Vernice Shada and Allen Hinz both of Anamosa, Sylvester (Joanne) Hinz, Cedar Rapids, Edward Hinz, Texas, and his three cats, Magic, Pearl and Callie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Blondie in 1999, his son Brian in 1977 his twin sister, Virginia Benter, and 3 brothers, Clifford, Manford and Marcellus. Virgil P. Hinz was born May 3, 1924 at Farmington, Wisconsin. He was the son of Paul and Esther Boucher, Hinz. Virgil attended the Anamosa Community schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. His deployment was as the Armed Guard that protected the merchant ships from the U Boats. Virgil married Leanna Mae "Blondie" Wehling on April 28, 1948 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Virgil was employed at Linn-Jones F.S. as a propane gas salesman and delivery driver. He also drove a fertilizer truck in the busy spring planting season. Following Blondie's death Virgil took care of cleaning and maintenance at Cedar River Towers in Cedar Rapids an later at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church for several years. Virgil and his daughter Diane were able to make an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2010. Virgil was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed feeding the wild turkeys and deer that came to his back yard. Virgil bowled on several different teams and made many trips to the National Bowling Tournament all over country. Goettsch FH
