Description	:	Virgil T. Wheeldon, 83, of Monon, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was born on February 25, 1938 to the late Virgil J. and Bonnie I. (Harris) Wheeldon. On May 12, 1959, he married Ella Lane at the Monon United Methodist Church and she survives. He attended Monon High School. Virgil was a member of... Read More	Virgil T. Wheeldon, 83, of Monon, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was born on February 25, 1938 to the late Virgil J. and Bonnie I. (Harris) Wheeldon. On May 12, 1959, he married Ella Lane at the Monon United Methodist Church and she survives. He attended Monon High School. He worked for the Monon Railroad until he entered the service. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Korea and Vietnam. He worked as a supervisor at Monon Trailer and PFT. Virgil was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and mushroom hunting. He liked to build bird houses and also made handcrafted rocking horses for his grandchildren. He built a cooker for hog roasts and enjoyed many hog roasts. He was anti-computer until Ella brought one home and he took it over. Along with his wife, Virgil is survived by two daughters; five siblings; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ted; infant brother, Thomas Eugene Wheeldon; sister, Sylvia Hammond; and infant grandson, Jordan Elmore. Visitation will be from until 11:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello with Rev. Chris Dodson officiating. Military rites will be rendered on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bedford Cemetery.
