Born May 29, 1923, in Yarmouth, he was the son of Asa and Clara Funk Landrum. On Aug. 15, 1944, he married Dortha Norton in Iowa City. Mr. Landrum was a lifelong farmer, hunter and fisherman, and amateur archeologist. He attended Yarmouth schools. He was of the Protestant faith. Read More	The Burlington Hawkeye, 9/2/1999 Virgil Landrum Virgil Wayne Landrum, 76, of rural Danville, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at West Point Care Center. Born May 29, 1923, in Yarmouth, he was the son of Asa and Clara Funk Landrum. On Aug. 15, 1944, he married Dortha Norton in Iowa City. Mr. Landrum was a lifelong farmer, hunter and fisherman, and amateur archeologist. He attended Yarmouth schools. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Central States Archeologist Society and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He restored Minneapolis Moline tractors. He was a World War II Army veteran, fighting in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Purple Heart recipient. Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry Landrum of Danville; two daughters, Mary Lair of New London and Lynn Kartel of West Burlington; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, four brothers and one granddaughter. Visitation will begin after noon Tuesday in Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Landrum will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Harmony Bible Church in Danville, with the Rev. Ed Davis officiating. Burial will be in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery in New London. Memorials have been established for Lee County Hospice and the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
