Read More	Virginia Belle Hiatt, 82, of Rt. 2, Box 293, Ararat, widow of the late Clarence Oten Hiatt, died Tuesday night, January 10, 1995 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mt. Airy, N.C. Mrs. Hiatt was born June 23, 1912 in Patrick County, Va. to the late William Marion (Dink) and Mimie Gwynn Hiatt, attended Patrick County public schools, was a graduate of the Hardin Reynolds Memorial High School at Critz, Va., attended Guilford College for two years and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Radford University. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, which is an organization of outstanding educators. Mrs. Hiatt was a retired school teacher and principal for 39 years in the Carroll County School System, was president of the District M Virginia Retired Teachers Association, and was a member of the Grace Moravian Church, where she served in many positions at Grace Moravian Church and Willow Hill Moravian Church, where she served as pianist, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer and youth leader. She was instrumental in organizing the Grace Moravian Senior Friends, having been the president several times. She loved her music, enjoyed entertaining her friends and fed a multitude of people with her cooking. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Red) and JoAnn Hiatt, Lowgap, N. C., William Carroll and Joyce Hiatt, Toast, N. C.; three grandsons and wife, Jerry and Dana Hiatt, Mt. Airy, N.C., Brandon Hiatt, Lowgap, N. C. and Darren Hiatt of Toast, N.C.; one stepgrandson, Grant Cockerham, Lowgap, N.C.; five sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret H. Leonard, Ararat, Va., Ester H. and Garnet Dawson, Ararat, Va., Clara H. Meredith, Fancy Gap, Va., Evelyn Coulson, Cana, Va. and Ruth H. Bowman, Elkin, N.C. Funeral services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Neil Routh and the Rev. Charles Fishel, with burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday night, where her body will remain until the hour of the service.
