Jane was born on November 6, 1938 in White Springs, to the late Lonnie D. and Linnie Mozelle Hunter Morgan. She was the youngest of nine siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Julian "A.J." Brown, Jr., whom she married on July 8, 1956 in Hamilton County, as well as three of her children, Regina Brown Lopez and husband Alex of Va., Deonna Brown of Va., and Duane Brown of Lake City. She was predeceased by her son, Stanley "Stan" Jay Brown. She is survived by grandchildren Julian Morgan Fray (neé Tiffanie) and her husband Michael of Ma., Dustin Brown and Travis Jay Brown of Lake City, Desiré Petrin, Michael "Mick" Petrin, Dylan Jay Petrin and Emily Shea all of Va., two great-grandchildren, Dallin Jay Brown of Lake City and Indie Morgan Fray of Ma., special granddaughter Catie Bassler of Lake City, as well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Jane graduated from White Springs High School in 1956, where she earned varsity letters in basketball and served as the team captain, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Education was a core element of Jane's identity, which she impressed upon her family by example through her own hard work and dedication. While raising four children, working as a bus driver, and continuing to work on the family farm, she attended Lake City Community College prior to transferring to the University of Florida, commuting daily from Lake City. After earning her B.A. in Education, Jane became a teacher in the Lake City school system, spending nearly 40 years teaching 6th grade, both at Niblack and LCMS, guiding her students with a mix of love and empathy tempered by a "no nonsense" approach to the rules. Those that met Jane were immediately enveloped by her warmth, humor, compassion, and her fierce love of her family. Those traits radiated from her like the bright Florida sunshine, making it hard to imagine her more at home at any other place on this Earth. From quietly observing the gardenias and honeysuckles she'd grow each year, to visiting springs and rivers with her grands and great-grands, to the raucous viewing of every Florida Gators football game, Jane loved being from and living in Florida. Her family knew that Jane would do anything to help them whenever needs would arise. These examples of virtues were planted like seeds in the hearts of her students, her family, and those she came into contact with. These seeds have been growing for years, and while those planted with close friends and family had the good fortune to have Jane's continued presence to tend and cultivate them and to help them blossom quickly, all of these seeds will continue to grow and spread for generations to come
