Description	:	Virginia Sherman "Ginny" Smith, 87, of Mount Airy, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at home. Born Aug. 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Mortimer and Amanda Elizabeth Rimby Sherman. She was the wife of Robert E. "Frog" Smith, her husband of 60 years, who died Feb. 25, 2009. She was born and raised in Mount Airy and was a 1940 graduate of Mount Airy High School. Read More	Virginia Sherman "Ginny" Smith, 87, of Mount Airy, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at home. Born Aug. 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Mortimer and Amanda Elizabeth Rimby Sherman. She was the wife of Robert E. "Frog" Smith, her husband of 60 years, who died Feb. 25, 2009. She was born and raised in Mount Airy and was a 1940 graduate of Mount Airy High School. She worked a short time for the railroad, the Acme food store in Mount Airy and retired after many years as the Mount Airy Middle School cafeteria manager. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church as well as a life member and past president of American Legion Gold Star Post 191, Auxiliary and Mount Airy volunteer fire company auxiliary. Her lifelong service to the Mount Airy community earned her many accolades including Xi Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the year in 1974, Mount Airy Rotary Club Citizen of the Year in 1989 and she was inducted into the Mount Airy Hall of Fame in 2002. Surviving are children Kaye Moxley and husband Jim, of Flinton, Pa., and Michael Smith and wife Lisa, of Mount Airy; grandchildren Kristina and Jeff Hines, of New Market, Gregory Dodson and Karina Rodriquez, of Gaithersburg, Ryan Smith, of Chicago, and Chad Smith, of Mount Airy; and a great-grandson, Dominick Dodson. She was predeceased by her siblings Edith Eader, Evelyn Morris, Leonard "Pee Wee" Sherman, Lillian Mack, Ann Snouffer and Betty Sherman. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery in Mount Airy.
