Description	:	Virginia E. Bernt-Bond, age 96, of Shelby, Nebraska passed away July 4, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Shelby United Methodist church. Interment was in the Shelby Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements. Bernt-Bond, age 96, of Shelby, Nebraska passed away July 4, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Shelby United Methodist church. Interment was in the Shelby Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements. Virginia was born April 11, 1918 to Albert "Shorty" and Lida (Henderson) Croisant on the family farm between Osceola and Shelby. Virginia attended McBeth country school through 8th grade. She then attended and graduated from Osceola High school in 1935. Following graduation she worked at the bank in Shelby. On October 27, 1937 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Matthew Bernt. She and Kenneth moved to Santa Rosa, California where he was stationed and she worked in the office of Montgomery Wards. Following Kenneth's discharge from the service in October 1946, they moved back to Shelby to work in the family business of Bernt's One Stop Service. On May 25, 1947 a set of triplets were born to this union. Following Kenneth's death on May 2, 1983 she continued working in the family business until her retirement in 1999. On November 23, 1987 Virginia married Marvin E. Bond. Marvin passed away November 28, 1990. She continued living in her home until moving to the Osceola Good Samaritan Society in September 2012. Virginia loved spending time with her family, attending grandchildren's school activities, sporting events and 4-H activities. She was an active member of Shelby United Methodist church, where she sang in the choir and served on the Holy Communion committee. She was also a member of the Shelby American Legion Auxiliary. Virginia truly enjoyed life! Her family was her most cherished possession along with her loving friends and neighbors. She loved dancing, golfing, going to movies and just socializing with friends. She and Kenneth attended NU football games starting in the 1950's. They purchased a motor home and loved traveling to home and away games. Virginia continued to attend football games until 2012. Some of her favorite memories came from NU tailgates where she was known for her chocolate chip cookies. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Kenneth Bernt (married for 46 years) and Marvin Bond (married for 3 years), infant son, brother-in-law Dale Ruth, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Max & Mildred Harms, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ivan & Edna Bernt, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Julius (J. E.) and Alta Bernt.
