Read More	Gini Mitchell passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home. Gini was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Corvallis, to Lydia Spadt and was raised in the loving household of the Messersmith family; Lee, her stepdad, and his mother and father, Iva and "Mugs." As a girl, she loved being on the farm, helping her family with the many daily chores and activities her small, close-knit community had to offer. She loved animals, particularly horses and her faithful guardian and companion, Smokey, a stray dog that adopted her when she was quite small. Full of life, adventure and mischief, Gini had a sense of humor that tempered her good-natured pranks. She loved making people laugh, and was famous for her jokes. Her wonderful humor and resilient spirit helped her endure any tragedies in her life, such as a rather tumultuous relationship with her mother. She was badly burned when a pressure cooker blew up, scalding her chest and arms. After months of hospitalization and skin grafts, she returned to high school. During her high school years, she'd met a young man named Gordon Whetstone. They fell in love, and were planning marriage after her graduation. Sadly this was not to be. The last time she saw Gordon was when he took her to her junior-senior prom. They'd had a wonderful evening, and he said he'd see her the next afternoon, after he returned from his second solo flight. There was a mid-air collision with another plane, with no survivors. To this very day, a piece of the fabric covering his airplane seat is tucked in her scrapbook. In shock, she was pulled away from the wreckage by her friends, but clutched the piece of seat that tore loose for days. With the love and guidance of her friends and teachers, she went on to business school to learn bookkeeping and management skills. Several years later, Gini was faced with a heart-wrenching decision to give her first child up for adoption, and made that decision so the child would have a stable home and parents, as she was single and just out of school. Maureen later found her birth mother in 1992, and a joyous reunion it was. Two more children were born to Gini and her husband of 15 years, Bill Mitchell. She helped raise his two boys, Steven and Allen. When things were good in their relationship they were great, but when bad, well, she taught her children a powerful lesson for life when she had the courage to stop the abuse and dysfunction and returned to Montana with David and Andrea in 1968. She married Ken Kobelt in 1973, and they started a new life in the newly incorporated community of Big Sky. Gini's business skills served her well, she went on to a management position for the Ramada Inns, then opened her own hotel, the Prime Rate in Bozeman. She retired in 1994, and moved to Plains to be near Andrea and her grandchildren. She promptly made many friends, and bowled on three leagues a week, often with scores over 200. She loved bowling, and amazed many that such a tiny little thing could throw a ball like that! Gini was known for her beautiful crochet work. Many little new babies received a blanket or hat. She loved giving her crochet pieces for gifts n there are hundreds out there! Gini was a crossword puzzle whiz, and amazed her family with her speed and accuracy. As fast as she could write, she'd fill in the boxes. She was well known for her kindness and compassion for animals. She loved horses, was an avid horsewoman in her youth, and helped her daughter fulfill her horse dreams. She spent many hours at the fairgrounds arena watching her granddaughters and other 4H-ers ride. She had a special love of owls, and collected many figurines and pictures. She always had flowers for the hummers, and loved bird watching. Music played a major role in Gini's life. She always loved music, big band and old jazz in particular. She sang professionally for a while, and later in life played bass guitar. She was an incredible dancer, (in stiletto heels, no less!) and danced professionally for the Arthur Murray Studios. Her love of music lives on in her children and grandchildren, many of them musicians. Her LOVE lives on in her children and grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed. Gini was preceded in death by her mother Lydia Stephens; the Messersmith family; and her exhusbands William Mitchell and Ken Kobelt. Survivors include a brother, Cliff Dye (Barb); daughter Andrea, (Jim); son David (Jenna); daughter Maureen; stepson Steven (Maggie); grandchildren Richard, Rachel and Rebekah, Randi, David, Erik, Emily and Elenor, Tyler, Trenton and Megan, Jason, Andrew, Jeffrey and Timothy.
