Description	:	Virginia J. Harms, 72, Sterling, died Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2003. She was born April 3, 1930, at rural Sterling, and lived in the Sterling area all of her life. Harms, 72, Sterling, died Sunday morning, Jan. 12, 2003. She was born April 3, 1930, at rural Sterling, and lived in the Sterling area all of her life. She attended Pleasant Valley rural school north of Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School in 1947. For three years, she taught country school in rural Otoe County. On June 4, 1950, she married Lorin W. Harms at St. John Lutheran Church, Sterling. She was a life-long member of that church, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served in several capacities in the women's organizations, including serving as president of St. John Women. She was also a member of the Band Mothers, the Sterling PTA, and was a 4-H leader where she assisted with judging. For 12 years, she was office secretary at Sterling Schools and for another 18 years, served as food service manager. After retiring from the Sterling Schools, she was employed part-time at the Johnson County Hospital. She enjoyed her family, sewing, gardening, cooking, the pinochle club, and traveling. Survivors: husband, Lorin; sons, Dr. Robert Harms and wife Kathy of Dell Rapids, S.D., Dr. Lawrence Harms of St. Paul, Minn., and John Harms and wife Nancy of Lincoln; daughters, Jane Harms of Sterling, and Janette Johnson and husband Jeffrey of Lincoln; grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Blake, Collin and Nicole Harms, Matthew, Elizabeth and Katherine Nierman, Jimmy and Michael Johnson; step-granddaughter, Alyssa; brothers, Alvin Remmenga and wife Sylvia of Solvang, Calif., Clifford Remmenga and wife Anna of Syracuse, Merlin Remmenga and wife Darlene of Kingwood, Texas; sister, Margaret Remmenga of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Lola Wentz of Sterling; brother-in-law, Donald Harms of Sterling; nieces and nephews; one uncle and one aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Hilda (Rulla) Remmenga. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, St. John Lutheran Church, Sterling, Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Family prayer service: 10:15 a.m. Friday, fellowship hall of the church. Burial: Sterling Cemetery,. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with Shannon and Erma Hazen in charge. The body will lie in state at Zink-Fox Funeral Home in Sterling until 8 p.m. Thursday and then on Friday morning one hour preceding the services at the church. Zink-Fox Funeral Home, Sterling.
