Schmidt, daughter of Edward John and Alberta Geneva(Marshall) Schmidt, was born on June 17, 1920, in Rock Valley, IA. She graduated from high school in Rock Rapids, IA. Virginia was united in marriage with Gerard Knorr and they moved to Sioux Falls, SD, to raise a family. Virginia remained at home as a housewife until Gerard passed away on January 17, 1966. She worked at various jobs until taking a position at the French Door as a Bridal Consultant and Buyer. She continued there over fifteen years until retiring to take care of her parents. Virginia volunteered at Sioux Valley Hospital and was a member of First United Congregational Church. She was active in Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Virginia was known as a sweet lady and enjoyed knitting and needlepoint. Grateful for having shared her life are her sons Gerard Knorr and his wife Faye, West Bloomfield, MI, Lynn Knorr and his wife Anna, Pasadena, CA; daughter Gretchen Zloty and her husband Bob, Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, Clayton, Stephen, Jesse; one great-grandson Gavin; and many other relatives and friends. Virginia was proceeded in death by her husband Gerard; grandson Gerard Michael; two infant children and a sister, Shirley McCune.
