She had been a resident of the Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab Center for the past 3-1/2 years. Read More	Virginia Kathryn Moreland January 22, 1924 - June 12, 2015 Virginia Kathryn (Dayton) Moreland, 91, of Pinto, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2015, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She had been a resident of the Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab Center for the past 3-1/2 years. Born January 22, 1924, at home at the Fairview Farm, Mineral County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rhoda (Yoder) Dayton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Moreland on Nov. 24, 2000, and an infant daughter, Karla Kay Moreland on Dec. 19, 1953. She was also preceded in death by one sister Anna Bishop, and three brothers; Calvin Dayton, Arthur Dayton, and Robert Dayton. Virginia was one of the 18 graduates who made up the first Fort Ashby High School graduating class in 1941. (Ft. Ashby, WV) Following graduation, she operated the retail milk route for her father for a period of time, worked for six months at the Amcelle Plant of the Celanese Corporation in Cumberland, MD and in the office of L&Y (Livengood & Yoder) Plumbing Company. She attended one college school year 1944-45 at Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana. Virginia returned to the L&Y office where she was employed until after her marriage to Carl Moreland in 1946. In 1958 she started work with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk and was appointed as the Postmaster at the Pinto Post Office in 1982 until her retirement in 1992. Virginia had enjoyed quilting, gardening, various kinds of record keeping and making family, church and club history books and albums. She was a member of the Pinto Mennonite Church, where in 1994 she retired as the church secretary after 29 years of service. She had been a participant in various church activities in local and district women's groups and served as the church historian. She is survived by two daughters, Esta M. Yoder and husband Keith, Winchester, VA; Gail E. Rotruck and husband Terry, Ridgeley, WV; two sons, C. Craig Moreland and wife Marti, Short Gap, WV; C. Chris Moreland and wife Eileen, Concord, NC; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Yoder and wife Stacie, Concord, NC; Michelle Hawkins and husband Ahmad, Hagerstown, MD; Amanda Jewell and husband Steve, Ridgeley, WV; Laura Steiner and husband Kevin, Boston, MA; Amber Bokelman, Waynesboro, VA; Eric Moreland and wife Brittney, Ft. Ashby, WV; Sarah Winans and husband Jeremiah, Salem, VA; Ryan Wharton, Falls Church, VA; Dustin Wharton, grad-student at Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN; Brittany Robinson and husband Bronson, Las Vegas, NV; Cori Harwell and husband Cameron, China Grove, NC; and Michael Owens, Concord, NC.; seven great-grandchildren, Kylee McGuire, Milanya Hawkins, Sebastian Hawkins, Isabelle Bokelman, Walker Moreland, Kaylynn Yoder and Karma Robinson; one sister, Lois Morauski, Colorado Springs, CO; three brothers, David Dayton and wife Imogene, Short Gap, WV; John Dayton and wife Dorothy, Blooming Glen, PA; Phillip Dayton and wife Nancy, Ridgeley, WV; three sisters-in-law, Norma Dayton, Ridgeley, WV; Doris Dayton, Quakertown, PA; and LaVonia Dayton, Abilene, KS. She will be greatly missed by her children who will always remember the love she always gave to them. Each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had their own special place in her heart. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway, Cresaptown, MD on Friday, June 19, 2015, from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at Pinto Mennonite Church on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Merle Christner and Pastor Phillip Dayton officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Pinto Mennonite Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffrey Yoder, Eric Moreland, Ryan Wharton; grandsons-in-law, Kevin Steiner, Ahmad Hawkins, Steve Jewell, Jeremiah Winans and nephew Al Anderson. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pinto Mennonite Church Virginia Moreland Memorial Fund, 13822 Pinto Road SW, Cumberland, MD 21502.
