Description	:	Virginia Lee Allen, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Morris County Hospital at the age of 102. She was born on March 22, 1909 in Commerce, Texas, the daughter of James Henry and Ava E. Surratt Fulk. She grew up in Horton, Kansas as the fifth oldest of thirteen children. She married Alfred Paul Allen in February of 1928. They enjoyed 58 years together, before he passed away on January 31, 1986. She was born on March 22, 1909 in Commerce, Texas, the daughter of James Henry and Ava E. Surratt Fulk. She grew up in Horton, Kansas as the fifth oldest of thirteen children. She married Alfred Paul Allen in February of 1928. They enjoyed 58 years together, before he passed away on January 31, 1986. Virginia and Al moved to Junction City, Kansas, where they owned and operated Allen's Market for 48 years. After retiring from the grocery business, they converted the building to Allen's Laundromat. Virginia continued to work for her son Kenneth Allen at the Laundromat until he sold the business in 1985, when she finally retired at the age of 76. She continued to bowl and received an award for being the oldest bowler at the age of 90. She moved to Council Grove in 2000, living on Lakeside Drive, until she moved in with her daughter Donnavie Wodke, shortly before her 100th birthday in 2009. In August of 2010, she moved into Council Grove Healthcare Center. Virginia was a member of the Council Grove Community Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 10 siblings, Mary Sheely, Bill Fulk, Joe Fulk, Viola Hovis, Harvey Fulk, Nellie Stultz, Charley Fulk, Lawrence Fulk, Sherman Fulk and Donald Fulk. She was also preceded by 3 of her 4 children, Rosemary Brehm and husband Louis, Kenneth Allen and wife Gayle and James Allen and grandson Robin Brehm. Virginia is survived by siblings Dorothy Stultz, of Arkansas City and Hurshel Fulk, of Hiawatha; daughter, Donnavie Wodke and husband Mel of Council Grove; 10 grandchildren, Doug Brehm (Carol), of Wichita, Scherene Gage (Mark), of Knoxville, TN, Patricia Chavis (Keith), of Cookville, TN, Kathryn Marks (Craig), of Fort Worth, TX, Jeff Allen (Carol), of Emporia, Jeri Lee Gant (Brad), Scott Allen ( Shannon), both of Council Grove, Cindy Riling (Mike), of Lawrence, Kevin Allen, Michael Allen (Rhonda) both of Biloxi, MS; 27 great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Amber, Jordan and Bailey Brehm, Brian and Kyle Gage, Chris Halliburton, Jeff Hicks, Kent Halliburton and Nicole Marks, Tracy DeVorss, Stephanie Meadows, Jennifer, Jessica and Callie Allen, Caleb, Curtis and Colby Gant, Johnny, Bobbie Lee and Mariah Riling, Michelle Greer, Dylan Allen and Stephanie Allen, Trent and Jeremy Gonzolas and Rachael Sinkes; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., June 2, 2011, at the Community Christian Church. A private family inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
