Virginia Mary Langmeyer was born April 23, 1922, northeast of Carthage, SD the daughter of Andy T. and Theresa (Fecht) Langmeyer. Virginia received her education in rural school in Kingsbury County, SD. Virginia was united in marriage to Sylvester V. Billet on December 27, 1947 in Brookings, SD. After their marriage they farmed in Brookings County. Sylvester passed away on October 1, 1976 in Brookings, SD. Like most who grew up during the Great Depression, Virginia knew how to make do with what she had and to appreciate and take care of what she worked so hard to achieve. She has taught us to be appreciative, to work hard and to take care of what the Lord has blessed us with. She always enjoyed the simple things in life and had a love of nature and the outdoors, traits that we are thankful were passed down to us. She always had many flower and vegetable gardens. Growing up, "when the work was done," we would go on picnics, go fishing, hiking at area State Parks, or Sunday motorcycle rides. Visiting with family and friends was always important to her. She loved to play cards, go to dances and traveled in later years. A particular fond memory she shared with us recently was all the times we would turn on the record player and dance together around the house. We have great respect for her hard work, perseverance and the values she has passed on for her love of faith and family. After her husband passed away in 1976, she was forced to be the sole provider. She managed the farm with the help of her son Jim, who has stayed on the farm with her all these years. She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, SD, the Ladies Guild and the Ladies Auxiliary. Virginia is survived by her children, Daniel (Kathy) Billet of Brookings, SD, James Billet of Brookings, SD and Mary Ann (Cory) Stuefen of Elkton, SD; her daughter-in-law, Susan Billet of Brookings, SD; her nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; her sister, Arlene Larson of Burke, SD; a brother-in-law, Dale Wagner of Brookings, SD and several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sylvester Sr., one son, Sylvester Jr; brother, Andy and her sisters, Jeannette Waage, Berneda Scroggins, Viola Wagner and Mary Collins. - Rudes Funeral Home
