Born November 12, 1913, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George and Laura (Selden) Sprague. She was a graduate of Olivet College in Olivet, Mich., majoring in French. Read More	POULTNEY - Mrs. Virginia Sprague Clark, 99, formerly of Poultney, died early Friday morning, March 1, 2013, at Cedar Oaks Nursing Home in South Plainfield, N.J. Born November 12, 1913, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George and Laura (Selden) Sprague. She was a graduate of Olivet College in Olivet, Mich., majoring in French. Prior to the outbreak of WWII, she spent one year at Kobe College, Japan, teaching English to Japanese-speaking students. Virginia was a lover of the creative arts and was very proficient as a painter, a writer and as a musician. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in New Castle, Del., and Poultney Methodist Church. She worked as a social worker during the initial days of the Head Start Program in New Castle, Del. Aside from her work with Head Start, Virginia played an integral part in the community in making sure that families who were at-risk had adequate food and clothing. Virginia's greatest joy was her cottage on Lake St. Catherine, where she would spend her summers with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Diantha Clark and her husband David Udell of South Plainfield, N.J.; by her granddaughter, Ashlen Udell of South Plainfield, N.J.; her grandsons, Nathanael Udell of Houston, Texas, Peter J. Clark of Winchendon, Mass., William H. Clark of Dayton, Ohio; by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Clark of East Corinth, Vt.; and by her nieces, Dorothy Datema of Colo. and, Eleanor Colombo of Calif. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Clark, in 1992; by her son, Peter J. Clark, in 1998; as well as by her sisters, Elizabeth Sprague and Evelyn Sprague Tyson. Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Poultney Cemetery in the Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts Aubin Funeral Home. Published in Rutland Herald from March 3 to March 5, 2013.
