Rader will serve as Celebrant of the Mass. Interment will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Roscoe. Virginia was born Feb. 17, 1927, to Edward and Anna Ulmer at Hosmer, S.D. She graduated from Hosmer High School in 1945 after taking a year off from school to help in the family home. Following high school she moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and enrolled in a Western Union training program for teletype operation. Upon completion of the program she moved to Minneapolis to work for Western Union. As a teenager she met George Meier at a barn dance. George had enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and the two continued to write to each other frequently. While both were home for visits, in the fall of 1945, they became engaged. She moved to Chicago in January of 1946 and continued to work for Western Union. In February of that same year George was discharged from the Army in Long Beach, Calif. He drove directly to Chicago to find Virginia. The two returned and were married on Aug. 19, 1946, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Roscoe. Together, they formed a loving partnership that would take them from Aberdeen to the West Coast. Their adventure together would lead her to working in accounting for different firms to owning and operating a record store in Corvallis, Ore., called the High Note. They moved to Salem, Ore., where George started in the car business. While in Salem they had two children, Mark and Mary. The family eventually moved to the San Francisco Bay area of California. George owned several car dealerships and worked for several others in the Bay area. They then bought a Chevrolet dealership in Grass Valley, Calif. They stayed in the foothills of California for 13 years. While there, the two started the Accordion Exchange, a business buying and selling accordions. They sold Meier Chevrolet-Olds in 1983 and continued to operate the Accordion Exchange until 1996 when they moved to Roseville, Calif. George died later that year and Virginia continued to make Roseville her home. She much enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and relatives, music and dancing as well as gardening and painting. Virginia died unexpectedly Sunday, June 25, 2006, in Aberdeen. Thankful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Mary and her husband, Jeff Marx and their son Joshua of Woodland Hills, Calif.; her son, Mark Meier of Sacramento, Calif.; her sister, Flora; her brothers, Rupert Ulmer and Allen Ulmer; her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, husband, and two sisters, Gertrude Preszler and Gloria Geier preceded her in death. Gramm-Hein Funeral home of Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.
