Description	:	Vivian E. (Tib) Slye, of Luray, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, from complications of a fall. Vivian was born on March 14, 1925 in Hagerstown, Md. to Eldon and Geneva Rickard. Shortly after, the family moved to Washington, DC where Vivian finished High School and met her husband Harry E. (Bud) Slye. While Bud was serving in the Merchant Marines during WWII, Tib worked for the US Dept. of Treasury. After Bud returned, the couple was married on March 29, 1945 and moved to Luray, Va. Vivian was born on March 14, 1925 in Hagerstown, Md. to Eldon and Geneva Rickard. Shortly after, the family moved to Washington, DC where Vivian finished High School and met her husband Harry E. (Bud) Slye. While Bud was serving in the Merchant Marines during WWII, Tib worked for the US Dept. of Treasury. After Bud returned, the couple was married on March 29, 1945 and moved to Luray, Va. Tib and Bud worked together to raise a family in Luray. Some of her employment experiences were waitress at Big Meadows Lodge, Book Keeper at McKim and Huffman Pharmacy, US Census taker, tax preparer for H&R Block, and officer of the Intown Motel and Restaurant, Inc. Tib was active in the Luray community and an avid golfer. She was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church, Luray, Va. and served on the vestry. She and Bud were former members of the Town and Country Supper Club, and the Tuesday Night Supper Club. Tib was also a Red Hat Club member, Treasurer for the Daughters of the American Revolution, and member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was fixture at her children's High School sporting events, and was often seen at Wranglers and Cavemen baseball games. She was preceded in death by Harry E. (Bud) Slye and grandson Chapman A. Slye. Surviving are her sister, Barbara Jennings and her brother-in-law, William Frank Slye. Also surviving are her children Betsy Burchett and husband Paul of Roanoke, Va., David Slye and wife Kathy of Luray, Chapman Slye and wife Marila of Fredericksburg, Va., Gregory Slye and wife Vicki of Centreville, Va.. Surviving grand children are Patton Burchett and wife Michelle, Kelly Slye Villanueva and husband Itamar, Susan Burchett, Giselle Slye Herlan and husband Eric, Jamie Slye, Geneva Slye, Carrie Slye, and Maria Slye. Funeral arrangements are being made by Blue Ridge Funeral Services, Luray, VA (540) 743-3700.
