Description	:	Vivian Schmidt, age 96, of O’Neill, Nebraska, and formerly of Spencer, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. She was born on August 5, 1920, in Spencer, the daughter of Joseph and Vlasta (Pucelik) Fiala. Vivan graduated from Spencer High School in 1973, where she took normal training to be a teacher. Read More	Vivian Schmidt, age 96, of O’Neill, Nebraska, and formerly of Spencer, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. She was born on August 5, 1920, in Spencer, the daughter of Joseph and Vlasta (Pucelik) Fiala. Vivan graduated from Spencer High School in 1973, where she took normal training to be a teacher. She taught school in Anoka and District 13, where she met her future husband, a local farmer named Paul Schmidt. Vivian married Paul on June 23, 1943, in Spencer. Vivian and Paul made their home on the family farm, where they raised their children. After the kids flew the nest, Vivian returned to the job she loved, which was teaching, as a teacher’s aide. Paul passed away in 1988 after 45 years of marriage. Vivian moved to O’Neill in 1996. Vivian was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spencer. She loved to play cards, bingo, Sudoku, cribbage, and do crossword puzzles. She also had a big garden, which she loved spending time in. Vivian is survived by: her two children, Karen Coombs and husband Edmund, and Bette Pavel and husband Duane; four grandchildren, Rick Boettcher and wife Melanie, Renae Schiewe and husband Mark, Richard Hall and wife Annie, Robert Hall and wife Rochelle; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband Paul; three brothers; and two sisters. Following her wishes, her body has been cremated.
