Mahanke, 83, Watertown, died Monday, March 2, 2009, in a care center at Lake Norden. She was the widow of William "Bill" Mahanke. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel at Watertown Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and will continue Monday prior to the services in the chapel. The family is requested to meet in the chapel by 9:45 a.m. She was born Sept. 27, 1925, at Osage, Iowa, to Carroll T. and Mabel I. (Blandin) Waters. She attended school in Orchard, Iowa, until her mother's death. She then attended school in Parkersburg, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Lyle, Minn. Upon graduating from Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa, she worked as a secretary. After several years as a homemaker, she returned to work until retirement. May 4, 1947, she married Bill Mahanke at Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple lived in Watertown, Spring Valley, Calif., Las Vegas and returned to Watertown in 1991, where she has lived since. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and was active in Women's Fellowship along with various other church activities including Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed sewing, needlework and watching sports. Survivors include her children, Nancy LaFramboise of Watertown, Monica and her husband John Redlinger of Sioux Falls and Brian and his wife Leane Mahanke of Golden, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
