Description	:	Vivian "Toots" Balison died of natural causes on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan. Her beloved family was at her departure for heaven, where others whom she also loved would greet her arrival. Read More	Vivian "Toots" Balison died of natural causes on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan. Her beloved family was at her departure for heaven, where others whom she also loved would greet her arrival. She was born in 1921 on Dec. 10, in Ponca, Neb., where she spent her early years in the Sand Hills. The Great Depression forced her family to leave the hills in search of better times. They traveled by wagon and on foot to more hopeful north Idaho, where indeed things got better. She met and married her lifelong love, Dale Balison, who after the birth of their son Rush, left to defend the country in Europe during World War II. She and Rush then went to Portland, where she, like other valiant women of our great nation, took a man's job, running an overhead crane in the shipyards repairing our fleet. After the war ended, they returned to Sandpoint, Idaho, and welcomed their daughter Lorraine, who would later be among the first, of what we know today as the baby boomers. Dale was a logger, and again looking for year-round work and better times, (as the snow in North Idaho was deep), pulled up roots and they moved to Hot Springs and raised the family there. While in Hot Springs, Toots served on the school board, was city clerk, and mayor. She was active in many clubs, bowling and a charter member of the Lutheran Church. Always a fan of sports and youth, she led a busy life supporting both. People from 30 to 60 years old can remember being driven to some event by Toots. In the 90s, she and Dale moved to Ronan to be near some of her family and continued to support them in all their endeavors. After losing Dale in 2002 and most of her eyesight, she continued with the aid of family and Ann Henricksen to attend church and pray for us all, go to games she could only hear, and enjoy her friends at Maxwell Apartments and Ronan Senior Citizens Center. Her story, like many others who are passing on now, should be an inspiration to us all to rise above our difficulties and forge on. Toots is survived by son Rush Balison and wife Betty; daughter Lorraine Lynch and husband Scott; and foster daughter Val McClary and husband Jeff; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Faith Lutheran Church in Ronan.
