Volley Orla Neuman was born on June 13, 1915, to Arthur and Edwina (Krueger) Neuman on the family farm in West Hanson Township. After finishing school, Volley worked for several homes in Groton. She united in marriage with Lyle Thurston on Oct. 8, 1938, in Groton. Together they farmed north of Groton for 56 years. Volley was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Groton. She was also active in the ladies aid and nursery circle. Volley enjoyed gardening and craft work. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Carole (Merle) Hanson of Groton, Steve Thurston of Groton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, Duane (Dodie) Neumann of Groton. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Lyle, and her brother, Eugene Neuman. Honorary Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Kevin Knoll, Tal Harris, Loren Wheeler, Tim Thurston, Joe Kimmes and Ben Schaller. Published in the Aberdeen News on 3/19/2007.
