Born February 23, 1934 at Leonard, Missouri he was the son of Paul and Mary Ellen Upton Gaines. On July 2, 1955, in Shelbina, Missouri he married Edra Janice McGlothlin and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Walla and Eric DeRosear of Kahoka, Missouri and Lora and Bobby Pfanner of Monroe City, Missouri; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Kim Gaines of Shelbyville, Missouri and Trent and Trudy Gaines of Kirksville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Katie Simmons, Scott... Born February 23, 1934 at Leonard, Missouri he was the son of Paul and Mary Ellen Upton Gaines. On July 2, 1955, in Shelbina, Missouri he married Edra Janice McGlothlin and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Walla and Eric DeRosear of Kahoka, Missouri and Lora and Bobby Pfanner of Monroe City, Missouri; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Kim Gaines of Shelbyville, Missouri and Trent and Trudy Gaines of Kirksville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Katie Simmons, Scott Gaines, Joel DeRosear, Graydon Gaines, and Danielle Gaines and two brothers, William E. Gaines of Fort Collins, Colorado and Joe (Greg) Gaines of Pasadena, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Winefred Copenahver and Frankie Wood and one half brother, Charles Ralls. Mr. Gaines was reared in the Leonard community, where he graduated from the Leonard High School in 1952. Following their marriage Mr. & Mrs. Gaines were engaged in farming. For the past ten years they have owned and operated the Novelty Seed Company. He was a member of the Locust Hill Community Church, Edina Lodge #291 A.F.&A>M., Matilda Chapter #411 O.E.S., Edina; Shelbina Chapter #99 RAM, Shelbina; Trinity Council #47, Hannibal; Malta Commandery #72 KT, Shelbina; Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, Missouri; El Kadir Shrine Club and the Loyal Order of Moose 1751 at Kirksville, Missouri. He was a Board Member of the Baring Country Club and the M.F.A.Oil Company, Novelty Bulk Plant and had served as a Board Member of the El Kadir Shrine Club and also a Past Master of Bethel Lodge #537 A.F.&A.M. Bethel, Missouri. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday evening, (September 24, 1991), at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, Missouri; conducted by Edina Lodge #291 A.F.&A.M. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday morning, (September 25, 1991), in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, Missouri, with Brothers Reese Blaine officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Marge Brenizer, soloist and Mrs. Karen Hall, organist. Burial will be in the Leonard Cemetery at Leonard, Missouri. Casket bearers will be Loren Harder, Byron Harder, Gerald Davis, Eugene Brenizer, Dwight DeRosear and Richard Griffith. Honorary bearers will be George Delaney, Harold Beach, Jerry Poor, Bill Daniel, Gary Kaser, Curtis Franke and Wallace Craggs.
