Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews, is in charge of arrangements. SGM Martin was born on November 21, 1929, in Hatley, GA, the son of the late Gertrude and Jack Martin of Cordele, GA. He died on Sunday, January 13, 2008. He served 26 years in the U.S. Army, toured in Vietnam and retired in 1975. After retirement he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired again in 2003. He was an active member of the American Legion, Forty and Eight, Jamil Shrine Temple, Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge, Magnolia Court Ameranth and Salem United Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Ruth Weed Martin of Irmo; sons, John W. (Sherry) Barr of Irmo, Dickie (Sandra) Martin of Lexington and Wallace Martin of Estill, SC; a daughter, Rose (Larry) Carter of Elgin, SC; four brothers, Billy and Jerry Martin of Cordele, GA, Bobby Martin of Albany, GA, and Jackie Martin of Joshua, TX; six grandchildren, Wes Barr of Lexington, Katina Addy of West Columbia, Sherri (Alison) Johnson of Little Mountain, Tracy Gunderson of Minnesota, John Martin of Columbia and Steven Parker of Elgin and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Reva Ann Wright and a sister, Ann Carter, both of Cordele, GA. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.com
