Description	:	Wallace A. Redlin, Sr., age 93, of Watertown, SD, formerly Summit, SD, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013, at a care center in Menno, SD. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mazeppa Township, rural Summit, SD. Rev. Jason Schulz will officiate. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday. Wallace was born on April 2, 1919, on a farm in rural South Shore, SD, to Robert and Theresa (Zirbel) Redlin. He attended Germantown #31 country school. Wallace was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in 1933. He worked the family farm until 1945 when he went into partnership with his brother, Ralph, running the Gamble and International Harvester Dealership. He bought out his brother in 1946 and also started farming on his own. On June 29, 1947, Wallace married Bernice Bieber at Trail City, SD. He met Bernice at a social at the country school where she was a teacher and purchased her "May" basket. They ran Redlin Implement store until 1951, selling it to Alvin and Bea Struss. They continued to farm until retiring in the late 1970's. Wallace and Bernice enjoyed spending winters in Texas for the next 35 years. They moved from the farm in 2008 and into Benet Place. Bernice preceded him in death in 2009 at which time he entered the care center. He was well respected in his community, church and by his family and friends. He was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he held numerous offices. Wallace was part owner of the South Shore Grain Company. He also served as a board member for the Summit Elevator and the SD Crop Improvement Association. Wallace enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, reading and playing cards. He also enjoyed watching trains and observing heavy equipment operators working construction. In his earlier years, Wallace enjoyed playing in the Germantown band and visiting with his neighbors. He loved humor and practical jokes. Wallace is survived by one son, Wallace L. "Wally" (Jeanne) Redlin, of Hermosa, SD; one daughter, LaVonne (John) Stedman, of Woodbridge, VA; three granddaughters: Valerie (Daniel) Wheeler of Moneta, VA, Cheryl (Clay) Whittaker of Pensacola, FL, and Amy Stedman of Chicago, IL; three great-grandchildren: Kade, Ashton and Oakley Wheeler; and one sister, Luella (Lee) Leonard, of Watertown, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; his parents; seven brothers: Andy, Alvin, Ed, Ralph, Clarence, Robert and Earl; and six sisters: Della, Irene, Lorraine, Gladys and two infant sisters: Leona and Eleanor.
