Source: Billings Gazette Obituary Bismarck Tribune (January 5, 2017) Wallace "Wally" Clayton Conitz, 89, passed away on Jan. 1, 2017, at The Springs at Grand Park, Billings, Mont. He was ready to be home with Jesus and loved ones, especially his wife, Mit, who passed away last year. Wally was born March 8, 1927, in New Salem, to Fred and Maude Conitz. Having lost his father at a young age, he did his best to provide for his two younger brothers and mother. It was in New Salem that he met Mildred "Mit" Heid and fell in love. Their first date was attending the Boy Scout Carnival. Wally walked Mit home after the carnival, which was directly across the street. His family teased him, hoping they at least walked around the block. Wally and Mit married on July 18, 1950. They enjoyed 64 years together, before Mit passed on April 1, 2015. Wally owned and operated the Happy Hour Bar, and later the C&S Grocery Store in New Salem. In 1962, the family moved to Billings, Mont., where he was employed by IGA as a meat cutter. He also worked for Pierce Packing, Northside Locker Plant, and as a retail counselor for IGA/Super Valu stores. Wally was a member of the fire department and president of the saddle club in New Salem. He also served as president of the Meat Cutters Union in Billings. Wally served in the U.S. Army, transporting World War II POWs. Wally broke and trained horses, as well as raising hunting dogs. He built furniture, including rocking horses, baby cradles and toys for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed knitting stocking caps, which he donated to the Rescue Mission. Wally was a family man. He and Mit enjoyed walks together and breakfast dates. As members of the Billings Motorcycle Club, his sons enjoyed years of motorcycle racing with Wally as the flagman. Wally and Mit made many trips to visit grandchildren. Wally did his best to be strong until God called him home. We will miss you always, Dad and Grandpa, but our hearts are content knowing that you finally "Let Go, Let God." Survivors include his son, Cass (Sheila) Conitz, Washington; his daughter, Kim (Tom) Loberg, Kalispell, Mont.; his son, Jess Conitz, Billings, Mont.; his grandchildren, Abra and Aaron Conitz, John Loberg, Rebecca Loberg (Craig) Harris and Ty Conitz; two brothers, Raymond and Duane Conitz; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Fuchs; a brother-in-law, Ronald Heid; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred "Mit"; his brothers-in-law, Oliver Fuchs, Benjamin Kottsick, and Wilbert Heid; his sisters-in-law, Sandy Heid, Anna Kottsick and Colleen Heid; two nieces, Kylee Heid Elovitz and Heather Heid Nelsen; and a nephew, Jeff Heid. A memorial service for Wally and Mit will be held in New Salem, ND
