Description	:	W.C. ALLEN PASSES AWAY LAST THURSDAY EVENING On September 28th, 1887 [1877], Wallace Coats was born to Alfred and Elizabeth Allen near Rockford, Iowa. On April 7th, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Popham and started farming on the old homestead near Rochford [Rockford]. He spent his life farming in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and in 1925 came to South Dakota. During the last three years ill health was brought on by asthma and he gradually lost strength until a heart attack brought death suddenly. ALLEN PASSES AWAY LAST THURSDAY EVENING On September 28th, 1887 [1877], Wallace Coats was born to Alfred and Elizabeth Allen near Rockford, Iowa. On April 7th, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Popham and started farming on the old homestead near Rochford [Rockford]. He spent his life farming in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and in 1925 came to South Dakota. During the last three years ill health was brought on by asthma and he gradually lost strength until a heart attack brought death suddenly. He died Thursday evening, May 16th, at the age of 57 years, 7 months and 18 days. He kept his hopeful outlook on life to the last and was much cheered and comforted by the visits of his friends and neighbors and by the constant and devoted care of his wife. He is survived by his widow and two children, Glen and Ruby, both of Long Valley. There are two grandchildren. There are also four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ruby Perrine of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Alweda [Almeda] Blunt of Rudd, Iowa, Mrs. Enola Elliot of Iowa City, Iowa, Mrs. Grace Lain [Lair] of Rochester, Minn., and Suel of Long Valley. His parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services were held in the hall at Long Valley, Rev. R. J. Elwood officiating. Mrs. Elwood sang three numbers and played her own accompaniment. Interment was made in the Norris Cemetery.
