He continued his education attending diesel engine and heavy equipment classes in North Carolina. He also studied hydraulics at Kellogg Community College, Battle Creek, Mi. Butch had been employed as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for the Calhoun County Road Commission. He had operated out of the Albion location, retiring in the early 2000's following 34 years of service. He enjoyed his job attending to the many tasks presented to him using the heavy equipment. Other prior employment included Burman Leasing in Albion, Michigan , The Aeroquip Company in Albion, Michigan and as a teenager, working at his uncle's Speed Shop in Jackson, Michigan Butch was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many acitivites. He enjoyed achery and trap shooting, and camping trips to Twin Pines, Jackson Co, Mi. He loved hunting deer, but many times he would just watch as the big one walked by, admiring its beauty and grace. He also enjoyed working on and rebuilding antique tractors. He had served on the Homer Fire Department for over 30 years, at one time serving as the Assistant Chief. He was also very involved in the upkeep and maintnance of the trucks for many years. Butch was a loving husband and father. One of the greatest joys of his life was when he became a grandfather.
