"Wally" Chicoine, 78, of Vermillion, formerly of Jefferson, S.D., died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, S.D., following a lengthy illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, with the Rev. Donald Imming officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Jefferson, with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, with the family present noon to 2 p.m., at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will resume 3 to 6 p.m. today at the church. Mr. Chicoine was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Jefferson, the son of Alex A. and Emma (Guillaume) Chicoine. He attended Murphy School district 27. He worked on the family farm until 1975, when he moved to Vermillion. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson. He was associated with South Eastern South Dakota Activity Center and a member of Senior Citizens in Vermillion. Survivors include three sisters, Veronica DeWitt of Yankton, S.D., Teresa De Boise of Brookings, S.D., and Charlene and her husband, Dick Merrill of McCook Lake, S.D.; two brothers and their wives, Orville and Bette of Des Moines, and Alex G. and Dolores of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rosemary and Bernadene. Pallbearers will be Greg and Dennis Chicoine, Mark Merrill, Sherri Morris, Deb Maas and Bill DeWitt.
