Read More	ROE, WALLACE LEE WALLY--Wallace (Wally) Lee Roe went to be with the Lord with family and friends by his side. He passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital January 16, 2008. Wally was born October 27, 1930 to William W. and Alice (Kneighkfind) Roe in Valentine. He attended Valentine Public Schools and continued his education during his tour of duty in the United States Navy from 1951-1955, receiving an honorable discharge. He returned to Valentine and worked for Art Rowe Construction. On July 24, 1955, he married Marlene Fleharty in Valentine. Two children were born from this union, Cheri Roe DeLong and Jerry Roe. Wally was the carpenter foreman for Bushman Construction during the building of Merritt Dam Reservoir. Later, the family moved to Ainsworth where he was carpenter foreman for Missouri Valley Construction building the irrigation canal. He moved to Geneva to build Heritage Nursing Home while the family stayed in Ainsworth. In 1970, he married LaVern (Betty) Norrie Otwell in Geneva. He worked for Vetter Construction as superintendent –in charge of constructing Heritage Nursing Homes in Geneva, Bridgeport, and Utica. Upon completion, he was foreman for Maury Corporation, and built box culverts in Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, and Oklahoma until the business was sold. At this time, he went to work for Anderson Construction, doing the same type of work for three years. He then worked for L.J. Webb out of Geneva building bridges and box culverts until his retirement in 1999. Wally enjoyed fishing, paddlefish snagging, dancing and playing cards, especially pinochle. He later collected antiques, kerosene lamps and many, many tools. He was a big Cornhusker football fan. For several years, one of the many highlights for Wally and Betty was attending the annual Naval Ship reunions held at various locations around the United States to reunite with former shipmates. Wally is survived by his loving wife, Betty of nearly 38 years; daughter, Cheri DeLong and Paul Kingma; sons, Jerry (Julie); Jim (Jana) Otwell; Douglas Otwell; grandchildren, Chad Roe; Chris (Jayme) Hallman, Jared and Michael Roe; Amanda (Marc) Fujikawa, Clint Otwell; Clayton (Heather) Otwell; Crystal, Jacob and Adam; and great-grandson, Jadon ; sisters, Betty Storms, Lois (Richard) Sokol and Dorothy Hazen; brother-in-law, Al Elenberger and sister-in-law, Bonnie Roe; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his father, William; mother, Alice; brother, Bill; half-brothers, Carl and John (Bud) Abercrombie, and sisters, Della and Mary Alice. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on January 19, with the Rev. Ron Harris officiating. Sondra Myers accompanied the congregation who sang “Hymn of Promise” and “Got Tell It On the Mountain” and Delwin Myers who sang “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace” and “Precious Lord, Take my Hand.” Casket bearers were Tom Trapp, Delbert Sorge, Chris Hallman, Bob Webb, Rick Norrie and Clint Otwell. Honorary bearers were Wally’s grandsons and Larry Webb. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery, with the Geneva American Legion and Geneva VFW providing military honors.
