Wally attended a country school until eighth grade and then worked both on his family farm and as a mechanic for a local garage in Tripp. On January 14, 1955, he was united into his first marriage with Margaret Semmler at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Also sharing in his life was Coreen Schoon, his second wife, whom he later divorced. Wally owned and operated a farm, Friederich Shelling & Trucking, and did custom repair work. His farm yard was always filled with hired men and customers from early in the morning till late in the evening. He devoted himself to providing for his family and his strong work ethic has been passed down throughout the generations. To find balance from the demands of the farm, Wally spent many hours on the river to find relaxation through camping and fishing. Many in the family have continued his love of fishing and remember his motto of “Only Walleyes for Wally." Another endeavor he enjoyed was sponsoring racecars. Many family weekends were spent at the Wagner Racetrack cheering on car 33. Painstaking hours were devoted by Wally and the crew preparing the car only to go race, wreck, repair, repeat. Rehashing the race in the pits was another part of Wally’s life on the track. After many years of deteriorating health related to his diabetes, Wally died on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the Tripp Good Samaritan Center in Tripp. He had attained the age of 79 years 3 months 28 days. Although their marriage resulted in divorce, Wally and Margaret continued a strong friendship and shared five children whom he is survived by: Timothy Friederich, Terri (Rick) Mayer, Teresa (Aaron) Berndt, Thomas Friederich, and James (Peggy) Lippert; ten grandchildren: Eric (Mandy) Cuka, Brandi (Eric) Brintnall, Brooks (Lindsey) Friederich, Brittany (Cody) Tolvstad, Tyrese Friederich, Javon Friederich, Bailey Berndt, Jacob Lippert, Megan Lippert, and Austin Lippert; four great-grandchildren: Rylee Elizabeth Brintnall and Brayden James Brintnall; Mya Margaret Cuka; Colton Harlan Tolvstad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lenora Friederich, sister Lois, and daughter-in-law Kathy Friederich, and first wife, Margaret Friederich. Contributor: Debrah Berry (49954188)
