Wallace R. “Wally” Gladman, 90 years of age, went to be with His Savior and Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Springbrooke Assisted Living Community in Denver, Colorado. He was born on March 23, 1924, in Harlan County, Nebraska, the younger of two children born to Elvie and Hazel (Maret) Gladman. He received his early education and graduated from Huntley High School with the class of 1941. It was after a three year stint in United States Army during World War II that Wally met and married Amanda F. Ihfe. Wally and Amanda were united in marriage on May 11, 1947, at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eustis, Nebraska and to this union three daughters were born: Sandra Joyce, Gail Lynn and Joan Eileen. Wally spent his life raising pure bred Herford cattle and coaxing corn, wheat and soybeans to flourish from his irrigated farm in Harlan County. He was a very active leader in Harlan County 4-H. For a number of years he was on the Huntley School Board as well as on the Soil and Water Conservation Board of Harlan County. Wally was an avid follower of the sports activities of not only his three daughters, but his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. He was also a longtime member of American Legion Post #377 of Wilcox. One of his great loves was playing cards with his family and friends. Over the last several years he demonstrated his card playing talents at the Peterson Senior Center in Kearney. Wally was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Amanda on January 16, 1990; his father, Elvie Gladman on October 16, 1957; his mother, Hazel on May 12, 1996; and his sister, Dorothy Schluntz on January 25, 2002. He leaves behind his three loving and devoted daughters: Sandra J. Hillman (Dave) of Centennial, Colorado, Gail L. Petermen (Jim) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Joan E. Johnson (Don) of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren: Jennifer Perry (Joel) and their three children: Abigail, Alex and Aidan; Jeff Hillman (Charity) and son, Gage; Kevin Petermen (Angie) and their three children: Craig, Austin and Taylor; Jason Petermen (Venessa), Stu Johnson (Kristin) and their two children: Amanda and Brody; and AJ Johnson; one niece, Linda Lewton of Alma, Nebraska; one nephew, Cecil Ihfe of Windsor, Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends. There will be no visitation in Nebraska. Following a private family viewing in Denver, the family honored his wish for cremation. The Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Wilcox is in charge of the arrangements.
