He attended Capitol Catholic High School and worked for the John Morrell Company. On February 8, 1942, Walt and Mary A. Flanagan were married in San Luis Obispo CA. She survives. Walt was born in Topeka, the son of John and Matilda Schwartz Hefner. He attended Capitol Catholic High School and worked for the John Morrell Company. On February 8, 1942, Walt and Mary A. Flanagan were married in San Luis Obispo CA. She survives. Walt owned and operated Hefner's Insurance Agency in Pauline for many years. Mr. Hefner was a veteran of WWII serving as a Platoon Sergeant with the 35th Infantry Division in Europe. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and also the Croix de Guerre from France. In 1949 he joined the Army Air Corps and retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1962 with 26 years of service to his country. Mr. Hefner was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was past Governor of the Moose Lodge, past member of Shawnee County Civil Service Board, Credit Union Committee at Credit Union One, and volunteered at Let's Help. Other survivors include his children, Sharon Aldrine, Cedar Park TX, Walt (Bill) Hefner, Topeka, and Carol Meggison, Tecumseh; his sister, Florence Minihan and brother, Joe (Bud) Hefner, both of Topeka; grandsons, Dr. Bill Hefner, Topeka, Baron Aldrine, Plano TX, Brett Meggison, KC KS, and Aaron Meggison, Tecumseh; and great-grandson, Baron Aldrine II. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Obit from Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, Topeka, KS.
