Whitman, 72, of 246 Baltimore street, at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. He died at Deaconess Lutheran hospital at Minneapolis, Minn., following the stroke. He was born Dec. 12, 1878, at Frederika, Ia., the son of Giles and Sarah Whitman. He was a member of the First Methodist church here. Surviving are his wife, whom he married Apr. 4, 1900, at New Hampton, Ia. Before her marriage she was Louise Buhrow. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Theresa Lehman, 850 Logan avenue; Mrs. H. S. Thorne, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sons, Stanley B., at home, and Maj. Henry G. Whitman, San Francisco, Cal. Other surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Ida Pike, 716 Columbia; two brothers, Louis, 148 San Souci drive, Charles, Pendleton, Ore., and seven grandchildren.
