Walter Atchison was born in Hardwick, Roxburyshire, Scotland. He emigrated to the United States in the spring of 1857, and came to Kansas in the fall of 1857 with his father William Atchison, and has resided ever since in Ridgeway Township. Read More	Son of William & Jane Aitchison (Atchison) Died Saturday, September 4, 1875, at his residence in Ridgeway township, Osage County, Kansas, Walter Atchison, aged thirty-eight years. Walter Atchison was born in Hardwick, Roxburyshire, Scotland. He emigrated to the United States in the spring of 1857, and came to Kansas in the fall of 1857 with his father William Atchison, and has resided ever since in Ridgeway Township. He contracted a disease in the army during the late slave-holders' rebellion, having served three years in the Second Kansas Cavalry under Colonel Cloud,* with whom he was a great favorite. His daring courage and devoted loyalty to his adopted country impelling him to engage in the most hazardous and fatiguing rides, which caused a pain in his side, which continued until consumption set in and compelled him to cease labor for the past two years, and on the morning of Saturday last to calmly, and in full possession of his senses, resign his mortal life and enter into rest, in the spirit-world in full assurance that his work was well done and it was "well within him." He leaves a wife and two daughters and a large circle of acquaintances and friends to mourn his loss. The funeral services were conducted by the Grangers, of which he was a worthy member. The services were very appropriate and impressive, and performed with credit to the Grange, producing a most pleasing and salutary effect upon the minds of the congregation which numbered over three hundred. The procession which followed the corpse to the grave, a distance of nearly five miles, numbered forty carriages and twenty horsemen. H. Worcester-co (Mass) papers please copy..
