Read More	GOOSE CREEK BOY SHOT TO DEATH IN FLORIDA While Hunting Coons, Banks Watkins Was Shot by His Uncle Who Thought He Saw Coon's Eyes Banks Watkins, son of Mr. Joseph Watkins of Goose Creek township, was killed in Florida last Wednesday night while hunting coons. He was shot accidentally by his uncle who was one of the hunting party and died with an hour. The body was brought home Friday night and the remains were buried at Hopewell Saturday morning, funeral services being held by the pastor, Rev. M. D. L. Preslar, and Rev. J. C. Meigs and Rev. D. F. Helms, special friends of the deceased. The circumstances of the killing were distressing. the young man had been living in Florida about a year. Wednesday night he and a party, including his uncle, went coon hunting. The dog treed and young Watkins climbed the tree to drive the coon out, carrying a flash light. His uncle on the ground thought he saw the sparkle of the coon's eyes and fired a load of buckshot at the mark. The shot hit Banks in the back of the head. The party on the ground heard nothing from the tree after the shot was fired and called to Banks, but got no answer. Then one them climbed the tree. They found the young man braced against the fork of the tree and his arm clutching around the limb. But he was just then in the act of going limp and falling. The man held the body and kept it from falling to the ground until the others could get ropes and get it down. Watkins died within an hour without becoming conscious. The young man was between twenty-five and thirty years of age and had gone through the world war without a scratch. He was unmarried and a most excellent young man.
