Description	:	Funeral services for Walter "Wally" B. Leimer, 100, of Battle Creek, will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Reverend Chad Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Mr. Leimer died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek. Walter was born on December 9, 1913, to Walter A. Leimer and Alma (Schlecht) Leimer at Germantown, IA. He was baptized on December 21, 1913. When Walter was one year old, his family moved to Bremen, KS. There he attended the Bethlehem Lutheran Elementary School and was confirmed on April 1, 1928. His education for high school and college continued at Concordia Teacher's College and High School in Seward, NE. After completing his studies in high school and a year of college in 1934, he served as an elementary school teacher for grades 1-8 with 22 pupils enrolled at St. John's Lutheran School in Nashville, KS. His education for a teaching career continued at Concordia Teacher's College in Seward, NE, and the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1937. Following that he was assigned to a full-time teaching position at St. John Lutheran School in Battle Creek, NE, teaching the elementary pupils in grades one to four while also serving as a member of the Board for Young Peopleand assistant organist. In 1939, he was married to Leona E. Werner, the daughter of George and Minnie Werner. In 1943, they moved to Denver, CO, where his teaching continued at St. John Lutheran School, and he served as superintendent of the Sunday School and assistant organist. While there, he attended the University of Denver for his Master's Degree in 1946. Then they moved to Omaha, NE, where he served at St. Paul Lutheran Church as the school principal, organist, and choir director. In 1947, they moved to the St. Louis area where he served as the school principal, organist, choir director, and leader of the young people's society at St. Luke Lutheran Church and then as principal at Concordia Lutheran School in Kirkwood, MO. During his stay for 32 years in the St. Louis area, he continued his studies at Washington University and St. Louis University and served as president of the Western District Principal's Conference. He was a member of the Western District Missions Committee and the Western District Evangelism Committee. He was a Red Cross First Aid instructor and a collaborator on an 8th grade mathematics text, and he published a Unit Studies in Religion. His retirement began in 1979 when he and his wife moved back to Battle Creek, NE, where he had started his teaching career. He continued his service at St. John Lutheran Church on a voluntary basis. Here he served as volunteer organist, chairman of the Forward in Remembrance Synodical Fund Drive, secretary of the Constitution Committee, leader and teacher of Bible classes, chairman of the stewardship committee, and pianist. He assisted in the worship activities at Community Pride Care Center, where his wife Leona became a resident for six years prior to her death in September, 2003. He was preceded in death by Leona, his wife of 64 years; his brothers—Harold Leimer and Gerhart Leimer; and sisters—Ellen Forney, Delores Sullins, and Lorinda Pears
