He passed through the dangers of the sea during the war but lost his life in a truck accident in time of peace. Cemetery Book. ------------------------- Walter Bodine Mann, son of Ralph and Cordia Marshall Mann, was born near Martinsburg in Washington county, Indiana, January 9, 1921 and died in Palm Beach, Fla., Sep 20, 1947 at the age of 26 years, eight months and 11 days. He passed through the dangers of the sea during the war but lost his life in a truck accident in time of peace. Bodine was a graduate of Pekin high school and enjoyed the friendship of many school friends and other acquaintances over a wide area. His work of truck driver for Aero Mayflower Transit company carried him to many distant cities from coast to coast. In his work he was considered very capable and trust-worthy by his employers. As a sailor he served his country over three years in the United States Navy. In this he did a valuable service in helping to transport vital supplies overseas. He developed into a young man with a brilliant mind and an exceptionally fine physical appearance. His personality was pleasing and likeable and he seemed to possess qualities that make for success in the world. Just why God called him away from a busy life in young manhood we will never know in this world but to his sorrowing parents we can say that He knows best and that some day we may see through the mist that clouds our earthly vision and understand His ways more perfectly. Besides his parents he leaves two brothers, Burnice of New Albany, and Delano, a younger brother at home on the farm south of Martinsburg. A number of other relatives survive besides many friends and together we wave him a tender farewell as his ship lifts anchor and puts out to sea--the sea of eternity. Like a ship that's left its mooring And sails bravely out to sea. So someone dear has sailed away In calm serenity. But there's promise of greater joy Than earth could have in store For God has planned a richer life Beyond the unseen shore. Funeral services were conducted Kahl Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
