His marriage to Viola G. Dale took place Jan. 2, 1926, in Ottumwa. She survives. He also leaves two sons, Emmett R. Porter of Floris and Walter L. Porter at home; two daughters, Mary L. Porter and Will Marie Porter, both at home; three grandchildren; two brothers, Eric Porter of Pennent, Sask., Canada, and Otto K. Porter of Bloomfield; a half-brother, Charles Porter of Hedrick; and four half-sisters, Mrs. Rella Jones of Keota, Mrs. Anna Pugh of Fort Morgan, Colo., Mrs. Rose Logan of Webster City, and Mary in California. Two half-brothers, William and Ben, and two half-sisters, Lula and Lillie, preceded him in death. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. "Porter Service," From "Ottumwa Courier," October 9, 1964: The service for Walter B. Porter, 67, of 118 S. Ward who died Thursday morning at Ottumwa Hospital, will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in charge of the Rev. Paul Williams of Finley Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Irvin Palmer, William Proctor, Harley McClure, Marvin Randall and Pearl Wood and John Harold Smith. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
