Buffington A final tribute was paid Dwight Buffington, 79, when friends gathered at the Mansfield Funeral Home Monday afternoon for services. Mr. Buffington, a resident of Mills county until some eight years ago, died Jan. 30 at Weslaco, Texas. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Buffington, he was born in Mills county April 27, 1895. He attended the local schools of the Hillsdale area and helped on the family farm which he continued to operate until he retired in 1968. He had a life-long interest in proper land use, pioneering in many of the soil conservation practices which later found wide favor. He considered his land as a trust and himself responsible for seeing that it was used so as to preserve and enhance its fertility. In 1949, he was married to Mrs. Amy Slothower, who survives. He is also survived by his step-son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Slothower of Plymouth, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a brother, Clyde of Gunnison, Colo., and sister, Mrs. Marjorie Kilpatrick of Tampa, Fla.; numerous cousins and a wide circle of friends. The services were conducted by the Rev. David Nolte, pastor of the Nishna Valley United Methodist parish of Emerson, whose tribute to Mr. Buffington expressed his integrity, his strong independence, fairness, his belief that life was a trust for which he was responsible and that vocation was a gift of God. Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. WIlliam G. Blackburn, Jr., organist. Mrs. William Zanders cared for the registry book and Mrs. T. E. Salyers the flowers. Pall bearers were William D. Baer, Robert Buffington, Roy D. Mansfield, T. E. Salyers, Allen Wortman, and William Zanders. Interment was in the Malvern cemetery, where Masonic rites were given in an impressive service by member of Silver Urn lodge of which Mr. Buffington was a member."
