Surviving are a granddaughter, Joan Apple of Maryville, Mo.; a grandson, Donald Gillespe of Tampa, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren. He was born April 18, 1898, in Mahaska County to Edward and Stella M. Thompson DeLong. He married Minerva Valentine DeCook Dec. 24, 1919. She died July 13, 1982. He was a farmer in the Oskaloosa area and was a member of First Christian Church and Tri Luminar Lodge 18 AF and AM. He is survived by a granddaughter, Joan Apple of Maryville, Mo;' a grandson Donald Gillespie of Tampa, Fla; and two great-grand daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, M Virginia Gillespie; and infant son, Gene DeLong; two sisters, Reva Hull and Beulah Patterson; and four brothers , Russell, George, Herbert and Forrest. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Michael Crouch of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation is open with family visitation from 7 to 8 P.M. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to his church or American Cancer Society.
