Description	:	Walter Edward Groves, 92, the son of Charles and Margaret (Cuff) Groves, was born Sept. 15, 1914, on a farm near Bostwick. He died August 21, at his home in Superior. Ed's family moved to Superior in the spring of 1915 where Ed attended school, graduating from Superior High School in 1932. He was employed by Texaco Oil Company from 1936 to September, 1946, first as a seismologist and later as a surveyor. Read More	Walter Edward Groves, 92, the son of Charles and Margaret (Cuff) Groves, was born Sept. 15, 1914, on a farm near Bostwick. He died August 21, at his home in Superior. Ed's family moved to Superior in the spring of 1915 where Ed attended school, graduating from Superior High School in 1932. He was employed by Texaco Oil Company from 1936 to September, 1946, first as a seismologist and later as a surveyor. On Feb. 14,1938, he married Eunice Troudt at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, where both later became active members. During his employment with Texaco, the Groves lived in several mid western and eastern states until he returned to Superior in 1946 to join his father in the operation of the Smoke House, a popular pool hall and tavern. From 1978 to 1980, Ed served as deputy county assessor. At that time he took over full duties of the assessor until his retirement in January of 1989. Other public service, in addition to his church involvement included the Superior Board of Public Works, the Nuckolls County Hospital Board and for 47 years was cooperative observer for the National Weather Service. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Eunice on Jan. 25, 1996. Survivors include distant relatives and a host of friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday from the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior with Father Philip Luther officiating. Lector was Darold Hiatt, acolyte was Richard Sullivan, altar servers were Nick Hawley and Zach Dressman. Rosary service was Thursday. Pallbearers were Arnold Miller, Roland Shambaugh, Kevin Bargen, Mike Sullivan, Joe Diekemper and Joe Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Elliott, John Sullivan, Frank Sullivan, Joe Kripal, K. C. Groves, Charlie Groves and Gary Troudt. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, was in charge of arrangements. Superior Express August 30, 2007.
