Description	:	He was raised in Eliot, attended local schools and graduated from Eliot High School with the class of 1962. He furthered his education graduating from the University of Maine and later earning his Masters of Education. Living in Eliot for many years Walter was an active member serving on many town boards including the budget committee, board of selectman and the board of HADA (Help for Alcohol and Drug Abuse) where he also served many years as treasurer. Read More	He was raised in Eliot, attended local schools and graduated from Eliot High School with the class of 1962. He furthered his education graduating from the University of Maine and later earning his Masters of Education. Living in Eliot for many years Walter was an active member serving on many town boards including the budget committee, board of selectman and the board of HADA (Help for Alcohol and Drug Abuse) where he also served many years as treasurer. His intense love of sports also allowed him to be a great basketball coach for many years and work with the Town of Eliot Basketball Program. He was also a real estate broker owning Ayer and Barrett Real Estate. Walter worked for many years in education both in the City of Portsmouth and for MSAD #35 serving as Principal of Marshwood Junior High School. He later worked as the manager and broker serving clients all over the world with Sea Trade Inc. He made his home during the week for many years in New Bedford and on the weekend he returned to his home in Ogunquit where he was able to enjoy the ocean, watching the fireworks from his home, making frequent visits to the Ogunquit Play House, being an active volunteer for Make A Wish Foundation and be known for his hospitality, entertaining friends at his many parties in his home. Most recently he retired and returned to Ogunquit full time and although retired he still worked nearly daily with clients from his home. He is survived by many dear friends, his brother Norman E. and his wife Sylvia Barrett of Alton, nieces and nephews Bruce and Deb Barrett, Alan and Mary Barrett and Suzanne and Rick Ouellette as well as great nieces and nephews, a cousin William Barrett and many close cousins on the Davis and Muchemore side of his family.
