He was Baptized 3 months later at Portland United Presbyterian Church, Portland Mills, IN. John Francis died in 1877, when Walter was 10, and his mother moved the family to Jewell Co., KS, near North Branch, to be near her father and sisters. Walter worked as a farmer and laborer in Jewell Co. Walter married Cora Mae Rushton in 1902. The stayed in Jewell Co. until around 1917 when Walter, Cora and their five children moved to Marshall Co., KS. They soon had their sixth and seventh children. Walter Elwin Francis (84) died in Marysville, Marshall Co., KS 19 March 1951. "He was a member of the United Brethren Church. A kind father, he had lived a good life."
