Walter Amen is now at Barstow, Cal., where he has charge of the night lunch counter at the railroad depot. Walter is out there for his health, and now weighs 145 pounds, whereas, he only weighed 128 when he left here. He says Barstow is quite a little place, and the prices are luxurious - 25 cents for a shave and everything else in proportion. January 30, 1896. Walter Amen returned last Friday from California. He looks better than when he left here, and speaks very highly of that country and climate. May 21, 1896. Walter Amen was in Cincinnati last week, visiting at the home of his uncle, Senator Foraker. November 19, 1896. Walter Amen has accepted a position in the office of the Clark Carriage Co., Cincinnati, and will enter upon his duties there the first of January. December 17, 1896. Walter Amen and his sister, Miss Anna, have returned from a visit at the home of Senator Foraker, in Cincinnati. August 26, 1897. W.F. Amen & Co., is the style of a new coal firm with the genial and accommodating Walter Amen at the helm. Their office will be in the Hetherington block, two doors west of the Parker House. Walter is a young man of most excellent qualities, and has a host of friends who will see to it that he does not lack for business. September 2, 1897. Walter Amen made a visit to Bainbridge last week, where he was a guest of his aunt, Mrs. W.C. Newell. November 4, 1897. DEATH OF WALTER AMEN. Walter F. Amen died last Wednesday evening at his home on South street. The end had been expected for some time and the members of the family were at the bedside when the spirit passed peacefully from the body. Walter had been a sufferer for many years with lung disease and had battled manfully against the ravages. Some time ago he left for the West in the hope that a change of climate might benefit his rapidly failing health. But he secured only temporary relief and returned home and faced the inevitable, and when the end came, met it with courage and fortitude. Walter was aged twenty-three and almost his entire life was spent in this his native city, where by his genial and cheery good-nature he made a host of friends. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Friday evening and were attended by an immense concourse. Rev. LeSourd and Dr. McSurely officiated. The body was interred in the Hillsboro cemetery.
