Main St. Walter Fred Brick was born on April 27, 1919 to Gust and Annie (Kaven) Brick at their home West of Warner. He attended school in the area and graduated from Mina High School in 1937. In high school he played third base for the Mina Hounds. Walter worked on the farm until joining the US Army in 1942. He served in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1946. Walter married Florence Kringen on September 27, 1947 in Aberdeen. They made their first home in Aberdeen. Walter worked at K.O. Lee for a short time and then worked for International Harvester for ten years. He later worked for Wilson Trucking for five years. In 1961 their family moved to rural Mina. Walter worked for Hub City Manufacturing until problems with vision forced him to quit in 1967. Florence died on June 3, 1982. In 1993, Walter moved to Aberdeen. Walter was a member of the VFW in Aberdeen and the Ipswich American Legion Post for almost fifty years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening. He was an excellent cook and his grandchildren loved his fresh baked bread and homemade ice cream. Walter liked listening to audio books. He was an avid Twins fan but also followed the Detroit Tigers. Grateful for having shared Walter's life are his daughters, Kristi Brick and Marce Batty, son Owen Brick, all of Aberdeen, one brother, Donald (Helen) Brick, Mina, six grandchildren, Mallory Bingham, Morgan Bingham, Chelsei (Michael Oliphant) Batty, Trevor Batty, Jennifer (Travis) Kelley, and Austin Brick, and two great grandchildren, Brylee Oliphant and Jackson Kelley. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Catherine Brick.
