Description	:	Walter George Filip, son of Frank Sr. and Clara (Hrbek) Filip, was born September 22, 1923 on the family farm near Knoxville, Nebraska, northwest of Verdigre. Walter died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Alpine Village in Verdigre. Walter attended the Knoxville rural school near the family home, and later attended Verdigre High School. Read More	Walter George Filip, son of Frank Sr. and Clara (Hrbek) Filip, was born September 22, 1923 on the family farm near Knoxville, Nebraska, northwest of Verdigre. Walter died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Alpine Village in Verdigre. Walter attended the Knoxville rural school near the family home, and later attended Verdigre High School. On April 28, 1955, Walter was married to Gladys Mae Svatos at Niobrara, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with one son, Lonnie. Walter loved farming and working with livestock. The Filip family farm was Walter's home his entire life, and he remained there until moving to Alpine Village in Verdigre in recent weeks due to a brief illness. In his spare time, Walter enjoyed playing cards, listening to polka music, and playing his button accordion. He was a lifetime member of the Pischelville ZCBJ Lodge #8. Walter loved his family and his loyal companion, his dog C.B. He will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to call him father, grandfather, and friend. Walter is survived by his son, Lonnie (wife Sherry) Filip of Verdigre, Nebraska; grandsons, Christopher (wife Angie) Filip of Omaha, Nebraska (and their daughter, Elizabeth Ann), George Filip of Verdigre, Lonnie Q. Filip of Verdigre (and currently attending the University of Nebraska-Kearney), Vincent Filip of Verdigre, and Hunter Filip of Verdigre; sisters, Lucille Broders of Yankton, South Dakota, and Stazie (husband Milfred) Frank of Creighton, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys M. Filip on February 24, 2005; parents, Frank Sr. and Clara Filip; brother, Frank Filip, Jr. on August 13, 2004; grandparents, Vac and Marie Filip and Frank and Christine Hrbek; and a brother-in-law, Everett Broders. Burial was in the Pischelville Cemetery west of Verdigre, NE.
