Read More	WALTER GEROLD PIERSON - Wednesday - June 11, 2003 Chelan - Walter Gerold Pierson, age 60, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family & friends, Saturday morning, June 7, 2003. Born in Spokane, WA on March 2, 1943, Walt was raised on a wheat farm in St. John, Washington where he graduated from high school in 1961. After graduation, he attended CalPoly University, later getting his Masters degree at Washington State University in Agriculture Education. He started his teaching career in Pateros & Ephrata, WA — there Walt met & married Janet Bryant in 1972. They moved to Canada where he was a district extension agent and also farmed. They moved to Chelan in 1977 where Walt taught the FFA program. Walt worked tirelessly for 25 years to enhance & further the education of each of his beloved students. Walt also contributed countless service hours to the Chelan community and was named Citizen of the Year in 2001. Walt retired in 2002, but continued to help his students with after school tutoring. He will be greatly missed at all levels of the FFA program. Walt & Janet operated an orchard and enjoyed selling cherries every July at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. Walt had a great sense of adventure & enjoyed traveling but his greatest love was his wife & children. He is survived by his wife Janet, son Patrick Pierson of Renton, Jodi Pierson of Ellensburg, WA, Brandi Pierson & Jami Pierson both of the home. Future son-in-law Ryan Sommer of Ellensburg, WA. He is also survived by his mother Ruth Pierson of Connell, WA, a sister Elizabeth Hodge of Pasco, Skip of St. John, WA, Don of Connell, WA and Tom of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his father Harold Pierson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walt Pierson Memorial FFA Scholarship fund at any Pacific Northwest Bank. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2003 a.m. 7:00 p.m. at the Chelan High School Gymnasium.
