Description	:	He was the eldest son of Herman E. Coon (b. in Oxford Junction) and Rose Etta Austin (b. in Hale). His father was a farmer. Two of his mother's brothers, John and Oscar Austin and their families, farmed near them in Hale, Jones County, in the 1900s. Walter says he was born in Oxford Junction, where his parents are buried, but Hale is on his birth registration. By 1917 he was a foreman for electric transmission lines in Sabula, IA with a wife and one child. They had another daughter in 1919, Eleanor Coon, born in Union, Jackson County. By 1930, still a transmission lines foreman, they were living in Des Moines. By 1940, He was divorced and living in Ames and worked for the Iowa Elec. Light And Power Co. He has a Freemasons (Masonic) Symbol on his gravestone.
