He was baptized in Christ February 22, 1917, at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Grove, Iowa, and later confirmed on March 19, 1932, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Read More	WALTER HEINRICH JOHANN BEERMANN 1917 - 2009 Walter Heinrich Johann Beermann was born February 6, 1917, the son of Henry and Olga Weller Beermann at their farm home in Nishnabotna Township in Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ February 22, 1917, at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Grove, Iowa, and later confirmed on March 19, 1932, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Walter was raised on a farm in Washington Township and attended rural school Washington #6. On February 6, 1940, he was united in marriage to Leone Hulsebus at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple were blessed with the birth of four children, Robert, Carol, Ronald, and Deborah. In 1945, they moved to their farm home ten miles south of Denison. Walter enjoyed farming and assisting Leone with building her flower gardens. He lived there until he retired in 1997 and moved to an apartment at Real Life in Denison. In September of 2006, he moved to Eventide Lutheran Home where he died Monday, April 27, 2009, at the age of ninety-two. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and attended the Sunday afternoon services at Eventide. Walter enjoyed family gatherings, visiting with his neighbors at Real Life, and eating at Cronk's after church on Sundays. He was known as a kind and gentle man who always had a kind word for others. He was a caring father, grandpa and brother. He learned to whistle as a young boy and practiced it quite often. His family could always find him in the farm yard by listening for his whistling. His neighbors at Real Life said they missed his whistling whenever he was away for a while. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leone; his son, Ronald; an infant brother, Alvin; infant twin sisters; his brother, Edward; his sister, Irene; and his brother-in-law, Clarence. Survivors include his son, Bob and his wife, Gail; two daughters, Carol; and Debbie and her husband, David; five grandchildren: Tim and his wife, Amy; Dan and his wife, Jodi; Michelle; Kate and her husband, Bob; and Sarah; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alma; Dorothy and her husband, Lyle; Lorena and her husband, Mervin; and one brother, Harold and his wife, Joan. Other survivors include his sister-in-law, Carmen and brother-in-law, Gaylord and his wife, Maxine; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and graveside rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for hymns, "Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty," "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives." Serving as pallbearers were Neal Christoffersen, Tim Beermann, Dennis Denker, Dan Beermann, Don Beermann and Dan Campbell. The family invited everyone to return to the church and join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Evening Guild.
