Born May 6, 1924, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Floyd L. and Bertha (Nicholson) Wensel. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eloise (Reckner) Wensel, on Nov. 20, 1998; and one brother, Ralph Wensel, in 1945. Born May 6, 1924, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Floyd L. and Bertha (Nicholson) Wensel. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eloise (Reckner) Wensel, on Nov. 20, 1998; and one brother, Ralph Wensel, in 1945. He was retired from the state of Maryland Gasoline Tax Division and was formerly employed for 20 years with Black & Decker Co., Hampstead. He was a 1941 graduate of Oakland High School. During WWII, he served with the United States Air Force as a navigator, flying B-17s. He graduated from the University of Maryland, earning a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Westminster Jaycees, and the Brooks Bird Club. He was also former Scoutmaster for Grace Lutheran Troop #393. He is survived by one son; one daughter; two grandchildren; and six siblings. A service was held at Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday, Jan. 5, with the Rev. Dr. C. Scott Robinson officiating. Interment was held in the Oakland Cemetery.
