Walter Lee Alfred Anderson was born in Swea City, Iowa, on December 15, 1932, the son of Dewey and Myrtle (Kelley) Anderson. Read More	Walter 'Walt' Anderson, age 83, of Ames and formerly of Boone, died June 6, 2016, at the Northridge Village Care Center in Ames. Walter Lee Alfred Anderson was born in Swea City, Iowa, on December 15, 1932, the son of Dewey and Myrtle (Kelley) Anderson. After graduating from Boone High School in 1951, Walt enlisted in the United States Air Force and held the rank of Master Sergeant. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. From 1969 to 1992, Walt worked as a claims agent for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. On August 4, 1956, he married Mary McCoy at Eldora. After 46 years of marriage, Mary died in 2003. On June 27, 2005, Walt married Joyce Bollenbaugh Becker in Luther. He was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, a former member of the Boone Noon Kiwanis, the Brotherhood of Railroad and Airline Clerks, and First United Methodist Church in Boone. Walt enjoyed vegetable gardening, reading, especially history, yard work, traveling, and enjoyed restoring his Allis Chamber 1948 Model H tractor. He was very good with his hands and could fix anything. Walt is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary, a stepdaughter Joy Becker Kraus, three brothers, Kenny, Benny, and Edward, and three sisters Doris Weber, EmmaJean Peterson, and Carolyn Dillon. He is survived by his wife Joyce of Ames; two sons Gary Anderson and wife Michele of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and their children Abigail and Grace, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Bruce Anderson and wife Mary of Boone, and their children Emily Walker and husband Keith, and Elizabeth Bohl and her husband Michael, all of Forest City, and Catherine Anderson of Boone; a stepson Paul Becker and wife Melissa of Boone; and a sister-in-law Zoe Ann Pervier of Boone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Heartland Baptist Church in Ames or First United Methodist Church in Boone. Funeral services were Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Darrell DeRadcliffe officiating. Burial was in the Linwood Park Cemetery. Playing of Taps and folding and presentation of the American Flag were conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
